Sacraments

The Sacraments are at the heart of our life as Catholics.

They are visible signs of God’s grace, sacred moments where we encounter Christ in a real and powerful way. Through the Sacraments, God strengthens us, heals us, and walks with us through every stage of life.

“Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” —Acts 2:38

Baptism. A beautiful beginning for your child, and your family’s, journey of faith.

Baptism is more than a moment, it’s the start of a lifelong relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church. Through Baptism, your child becomes a beloved son or daughter of God, welcomed into a community that will walk with your family in faith, friendship, and support.

And you’re not doing this alone, we’re here to guide you every step of the way.

As parents, you want the very best for your child. Baptism is a powerful gift that offers:

  • A foundation of faith to guide your child through life
  • A sense of belonging in a loving parish family
  • God’s grace and protection from the very beginning
  • A partnership with you in raising your child in faith

It’s not about having everything figured out, it’s about taking the first step.

We’ve made the process simple and welcoming:

  1. Complete a Baptism Information Form
  2. Connect with our parish team to select a date
  3. Attend a Baptism Preparation Session (if needed)
  4. Celebrate your child’s Baptism with family, friends, and our parish community

We offer Baptisms regularly throughout the year:
First Sunday of most months at St. Julian Eymard Church at 10:30am, following the 9:15am Mass.

Third Sunday of most months at Queen of the Rosary Church at 11:45am, following the 10:30am Mass.

Preparation sessions help you understand the meaning of Baptism and your role in nurturing your child’s faith. We offer Baptism Preparation at 6:30pm on the Second Monday of most months. To assist with planning, we ask that you register for an upcoming session, and our parish office is happy to confirm upcoming dates and help you register.

If your child is age 7 or older and has not yet been baptized, they will prepare for the Sacraments through our Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) program, specially adapted for children.

This process prepares children to receive Baptism, First Communion, and Confirmation, guiding them step-by-step in the Catholic faith.

Getting Started

The easiest way to begin is to complete our online form.

A quick note to help you get started: Completing the form begins the Baptism process, it does not schedule a Baptism date just yet. After we receive your information, a member of our parish team will reach out to confirm details, discuss available dates, and guide you through the next steps.

At that time, we’ll also ask for a copy of your child’s birth certificate and, if needed, help you register for a Baptism Preparation session.

We’re here to walk with you every step of the way.

First Eucharist. A sacred milestone in your child's journey of faith.

First Eucharist is a beautiful and meaningful moment in the life of a child and their family. In receiving the Body and Blood of Christ for the first time, your child is drawn into a deeper relationship with Jesus and more fully into the life of the Church.

We’re honored to partner with you as you prepare your child for this special day.

The Eucharist is the heart of our Catholic faith. Through this Sacrament, your child will:

  • Receive Jesus in a real and personal way
  • Grow in faith and understanding of the Mass
  • Be nourished spiritually for their lifelong journey
  • Take an important step in living as a disciple of Christ

Preparation for First Eucharist is part of your child’s faith formation:

  • 2nd Grade Focus: First Eucharist is the central Sacrament of preparation for students in 2nd Grade in both our Queen of the Rosary School and Religious Education program
  • Faith Formation: Children participate in ongoing formation through their school or RE classes
  • Celebration: The Sacrament is celebrated together as a class during the Easter season in the Spring

Our parish works closely with families to ensure children are well-prepared and supported every step of the way.

First Eucharist is typically celebrated in the Spring. The class syllabus for 2nd Grade includes dates for First Eucharist Retreat, First Eucharist Rehearsal, and celebration of the Sacrament. Need more info? Contact our parish office at (847) 979-0901 x1001 or sgoranson@archchicago.org

For Children Age 7 and Older. If your child is age 7 or older and has not yet received Baptism, we invite you to explore our Order of Christian Initiation (OCIA) for Littler Lites.

This process prepares children to receive Baptism, First Eucharist, and Confirmation, guiding them step-by-step in the Catholic faith.

Not sure which path is right for your child? We’re happy to help. Just reach out at (847) 979-0901 x1001 or sgoranson@archchicago.org

Preparing for First Eucharist is a special time not just for your child, but for your whole family. Regular participation in Mass and faith formation helps your child grow in understanding and appreciation of this sacred gift.

This is a journey of faith, and what we invest in it helps shape what we receive from it.

As our former pastor, Fr. Dan, used to remind us, what’s even more important than our First Communion is our second, third, and every Communion that follows.

Confirmation. Strengthened by the Holy Spirit for a life of faith.

Confirmation is a powerful moment in your child’s journey, a time when they are sealed with the gifts of the Holy Spirit and strengthened to live their faith with courage, purpose, and joy.

We’re honored to partner with you as your child takes this important step.

In Confirmation, your child is more deeply rooted in their identity as a disciple of Christ.

Through this Sacrament, they will:

  • Receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit
  • Be strengthened to live and share their faith
  • Grow in responsibility as a member of the Church
  • Be equipped to make faith their own

Preparation for Confirmation is a meaningful and engaging journey:

  • Junior High Focus: Confirmation is the central Sacrament of preparation during 8th Grade, and builds on the formation begun in 6th and 7th Grade
  • Formation & Preparation: Students—and their parents and sponsors—are invited to participate in information sessions, formation experiences, and preparation throughout the year
  • Celebration: The Sacrament is celebrated as a class in the Spring, typically with our Vicariate Bishop, surrounded by family, sponsors, and our parish community

Our goal is not just to prepare students for a Sacrament, but to help them grow in a living, lasting relationship with Christ.

Confirmation is celebrated each Spring during the Easter season. Please see the parish calendar and Religious Education grade-level calendars for exact date each year.

For Unbaptized Youth (Age 7 and Older)
If your child has not yet been baptized, we invite you to explore our Order of Christian Initiation (OCIA).

This process prepares young people to receive Baptism, First Eucharist, and Confirmation, guiding them step-by-step in the Catholic faith.

Not sure which path is right for your child? We’re happy to help—just reach out.

Confirmation preparation is an opportunity to grow deeper in faith, not just complete a requirement. Regular participation in Mass, formation, and parish life helps open hearts to all that God desires to give.

This is your journey of faith, and what you put into it will shape what you receive from it. Confirmation is not a graduation or an ending, it is a beginning.

Reconciliation. God's mercy always within reach.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation is a beautiful opportunity to experience God’s mercy, healing, and forgiveness. Through this Sacrament, we are restored in our relationship with God and strengthened to live more fully in His grace.

School-aged children prepare for and celebrate First Reconciliation prior to receiving First Eucharist.

  • Children must be Baptized
  • Enrolled in our Queen of the Rosary School or Religious Education program
  • Supported by their family in their preparation

We offer regular opportunities for the whole community to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation:

  • Wednesdays at 7:00pm (St. Julian Eymard Church, 601 Biesterfield Rd)
  • Saturdays at 12:00pm (Queen of the Rosary Church, 750 W Elk Grove Blvd)

In addition, Parish Reconciliation Services are celebrated during Advent and Lent.

The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick offers strength, peace, and comfort to those who are facing illness, preparing for surgery, or experiencing the challenges that come with age. In this Sacrament, Christ draws near, bringing grace, healing, and the reassurance that we are never alone.

You or a loved one may receive the Sacrament when experiencing:

  • Serious illness or ongoing health concerns
  • Upcoming surgery
  • Advanced age or increasing frailty
  • A time when spiritual strength and peace are especially needed

  • Come to the hospital or care facility
  • Or, if you are able and prefer, arrange a time at the church

Wherever you are, we are here to bring the care and prayer of the Church to you.

In addition to the Sacrament of Anointing, our Ministry of Care brings the presence of Christ to those who are homebound or unable to attend Mass. Through prayer, companionship, and the reception of Holy Communion, we continue to walk with you or your loved one in faith.

In our family of faith, nobody walks alone.

To request Anointing of the Sick, please contact the parish office at (847) 979-0901 x1001.

If you are calling after business hours, our answering service will assist in forwarding urgent requests.

Holy Orders. A call to serve the Church in a unique and powerful way.

Holy Orders is the Sacrament through which men are ordained as deacons, priests, and bishops, dedicating their lives to the service of God and His people.

This vocation is a response to God’s call, a life of leadership, service, and sacramental ministry within the Church.

If you or someone you know is considering a call to the priesthood or diaconate, we would be honored to walk with you in that discernment. Please contact the parish office to begin a conversation with one of our clergy (847) 979-0901.

Every vocation begins with a simple “yes.” We’re here to support you as you listen for God’s call.

Christian Funeral. Entrusting our loved ones to God's mercy and the promise of eternal life.

At a time of loss, the Church walks with you in prayer, hope, and compassion. Through the Funeral Rites—the Vigil, the Funeral Liturgy, and the Committal—we commend our loved ones to God and find comfort in the promise of the Resurrection. In our family of faith, nobody grieves alone. Visit Funeral Liturgy Planning to learn more, or download the Funeral Planning Guide below.
