Sacraments

The Sacraments are at the heart of our life as Catholics.
They are visible signs of God’s grace, sacred moments where we encounter Christ in a real and powerful way. Through the Sacraments, God strengthens us, heals us, and walks with us through every stage of life.

“Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” —Acts 2:38

Baptism. A beautiful beginning for your child, and your family’s, journey of faith.

Baptism is more than a moment, it’s the start of a lifelong relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church. Through Baptism, your child becomes a beloved son or daughter of God, welcomed into a community that will walk with your family in faith, friendship, and support.

And you’re not doing this alone, we’re here to guide you every step of the way.

As parents, you want the very best for your child. Baptism is a powerful gift that offers:

  • A foundation of faith to guide your child through life
  • A sense of belonging in a loving parish family
  • God’s grace and protection from the very beginning
  • A partnership with you in raising your child in faith

It’s not about having everything figured out, it’s about taking the first step.

We’ve made the process simple and welcoming:

  1. Complete a Baptism Information Form
  2. Connect with our parish team to select a date
  3. Attend a Baptism Preparation Session (if needed)
  4. Celebrate your child’s Baptism with family, friends, and our parish community

We offer Baptisms regularly throughout the year:
First Sunday of most months at St. Julian Eymard Church at 10:30am, following the 9:15am Mass.

Third Sunday of most months at Queen of the Rosary Church at 11:45am, following the 10:30am Mass.

Preparation sessions help you understand the meaning of Baptism and your role in nurturing your child’s faith. We offer Baptism Preparation at 6:30pm on the Second Monday of most months. To assist with planning, we ask that you register for an upcoming session, and our parish office is happy to confirm upcoming dates and help you register.

If your child is age 7 or older and has not yet been baptized, they will prepare for the Sacraments through our Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) program, specially adapted for children.

This process prepares children to receive Baptism, First Communion, and Confirmation, guiding them step-by-step in the Catholic faith.

Getting Started

The easiest way to begin is to complete our online form.

A quick note to help you get started: Completing the form begins the Baptism process, it does not schedule a Baptism date just yet. After we receive your information, a member of our parish team will reach out to confirm details, discuss available dates, and guide you through the next steps.

At that time, we’ll also ask for a copy of your child’s birth certificate and, if needed, help you register for a Baptism Preparation session.

We’re here to walk with you every step of the way.

First Eucharist. A sacred milestone in your child's journey of faith.

First Eucharist is a beautiful and meaningful moment in the life of a child and their family. In receiving the Body and Blood of Christ for the first time, your child is drawn into a deeper relationship with Jesus and more fully into the life of the Church.

We’re honored to partner with you as you prepare your child for this special day.

The Eucharist is the heart of our Catholic faith. Through this Sacrament, your child will:

  • Receive Jesus in a real and personal way
  • Grow in faith and understanding of the Mass
  • Be nourished spiritually for their lifelong journey
  • Take an important step in living as a disciple of Christ

Preparation for First Eucharist is part of your child’s faith formation:

  • 2nd Grade Focus: First Eucharist is the central Sacrament of preparation for students in 2nd Grade in both our Queen of the Rosary School and Religious Education program
  • Faith Formation: Children participate in ongoing formation through their school or RE classes
  • Celebration: The Sacrament is celebrated together as a class during the Easter season in the Spring

Our parish works closely with families to ensure children are well-prepared and supported every step of the way.

First Eucharist is typically celebrated in the Spring. The class syllabus for 2nd Grade includes dates for First Eucharist Retreat, First Eucharist Rehearsal, and celebration of the Sacrament. Need more info? Contact our parish office at (847) 979-0901 x1001 or sgoranson@archchicago.org

For Children Age 7 and Older. If your child is age 7 or older and has not yet received Baptism, we invite you to explore our Order of Christian Initiation (OCIA) for Littler Lites.

This process prepares children to receive Baptism, First Eucharist, and Confirmation, guiding them step-by-step in the Catholic faith.

Preparing for First Eucharist is a special time not just for your child, but for your whole family. Regular participation in Mass and faith formation helps your child grow in understanding and appreciation of this sacred gift.

This is a journey of faith, and what we invest in it helps shape what we receive from it.

As our former pastor, Fr. Dan, used to remind us, what’s even more important than our First Communion is our second, third, and every Communion that follows.
