Care, Prayer, Support

In moments of joy and in moments of sorrow… in times of strength and in times of need…we are called to walk with one another.

These ministries are the quiet heartbeat of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Parish, offering presence, prayer, and compassion when it matters most.

Whether you feel called to serve others or find yourself in need of support, this is a place where you are seen, known, and never alone.

This Might Be for You If…

  • You feel called to care for others in a personal, meaningful way
  • You have a heart for those who are sick, grieving, or homebound
  • You believe in the power of prayer
  • You want to make a difference, quietly, faithfully, and compassionately
  • Or… you’re going through something and could use support yourself

There is space for you here at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Parish, on either side of care.

You don’t have to do everything. Start with just one step:

Ministry of Care

Bringing Christ to Those Who Need Him Most

This ministry brings the physical and spiritual presence of Christ, in the Eucharist and in companionship, to those who are homebound, hospitalized, or in care facilities. It’s a simple but powerful act: showing up, offering prayer, and sharing the Eucharist.

  • Requires Archdiocesan mandation
  • Must be Virtus/Protecting God’s Children compliant
  • Involves some local driving

Quiet, faithful presence. Profound impact.

Bereavement Ministry

Walking with Families Through Loss

When someone experiences the loss of a loved one, this ministry ensures they are not alone.

Volunteers help families navigate the Rite of Christian Burial, offering compassion, guidance, and a steady presence during a difficult time.

Sometimes the greatest gift is simply walking beside someone.

I’m Interested. Contact the Parish Office at (847) 979-0901 or sgoranson@archchicago.org to learn about upcoming training.

Journey of the Heart Grief Share

Because Grief Has No Timeline

Grief doesn’t follow a schedule, and healing takes time. Whether recent or long ago, this ministry offers a safe, faith-filled space for those grieving a loss,  to share, reflect, and find companionship with others who understand.

  • Follows the Seasons of Hope series by M. Donna McLeod
  • Each session runs 6 weeks, one in the Fall and one in the Spring
  • Facilitators must be Virtus compliant

Interested in Participating? You don’t have to walk through grief alone.

Advance registration is required for Journey of the Heart due to the personal and sensitive nature of grief-sharing conversations. Please complete the confidential intake form below if you:

  • would like more information,
  • are interested in joining an upcoming season,
  • or have participated previously and would like to reconnect.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Wrapped in Prayer

This ministry quite literally wraps people in prayer. Our knitters and crocheters create:

  • prayer shawls
  • blankets
  • baby booties and bonnets
  • rosary pouches
  • and more

Each piece is made with care, intention, and prayer, and shared with those in need of comfort. You don’t have to be an expert, just someone willing to create with love.

I’m Interested. Contact the Parish Office at (847) 979-0901 or sgoranson@archchicago.org to be connected to Prayer Shawl Ministry.

Marriage & Family Ministry

Marriage is a sacred vocation, and no couple should walk the journey alone. Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Marriage & Family Ministry accompanies engaged couples as they prepare for the Sacrament of Marriage through prayer, encouragement, and personal support. By sharing wisdom, hospitality, and faith-filled friendship, ministry volunteers help couples build a strong foundation rooted in Christ and connected to our OLBS parish family. Join us in supporting and strengthening marriages from the very beginning.

Little Flower Ministry

A Hidden Strength in Our Parish

Even when someone can’t be physically present, they are still a vital part of our parish. The Little Flower Ministry connects our homebound parishioners through:

  • a monthly newsletter
  • prayer resources
  • parish updates and sacramental celebrations

And most importantly. we invite them to be prayer warriors, lifting up Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Parish in their daily prayers. This ministry reminds us that everyone has a role to play in the Body of Christ.

Rosary Ministry

Praying Together as a Parish

The Rosary is a powerful way to meditate on the life of Christ through the eyes of Mary. This ministry leads the parish in prayer:

  • Every Tuesday
  • First Saturday Devotions
  • October (Month of the Holy Rosary)
  • Special Rosary & Novena events throughout the year
(Feast Days, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Respect Life, and more)

Come pray. Come reflect. Come be renewed.

Why It Matters

These ministries may not always be visible, but they are deeply felt. This is where:

  • the sick are visited
  • the grieving are comforted
  • the lonely are remembered
  • and the whole parish is lifted up in prayer

This is where we live out Christ’s call to love one another.

Take the First Step

Whether you feel called to serve…or find yourself in need of care…you don’t have to have it all figured out.

Just take the first step—and we’ll walk with you from there.
