United Under the Mantle of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament

About Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament

The Feast of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament was first promoted by Saint Peter Julian Eymard of France in 1868, the year he died. The purpose of this feast is to remind us that without Our Lady, there would be no Blessed Sacrament. It was Mary who gave Jesus the body and blood which are made present at every Mass, and then given to us, the faithful, as our Divine Food. Mary was the first tabernacle of the Most High and the first adorer of Our Lord and Savior.

How can we adore Jesus Christ without honoring the one who gave Him to us?

Eymard had a strong devotion to the Holy Eucharist and Our Lady. As an altar server, Eymard was often seen in church adoring the Blessed Sacrament and offering a quick prayer to Our Lady. He then began his priestly life in the Society of Mary. “But his heart burned with the desire to establish perpetual adoration of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament exposed upon a royal throne and surrounded by a large court of adorers. On February 2, 1851, at the shrine of Fourvière, the most Blessed Virgin had made him understand its necessity. ‘All the mysteries of my Son have a religious order of men to honor them. The Eucharist alone has none . . . .’ After several years of prudent reflection and interior combat, encouraged by Pope Pius IX, he founded the Congregation of the Most Blessed Sacrament at Paris on May 13, 1856” (St. Peter Julian Eymard: Apostle of the Eucharist Novena, p. 20).

Eymard later described what her statue should look like: "The Blessed Virgin holds the Infant in her arms; and He holds a chalice in one hand and a Host in the other." He encouraged his pupils to invoke Mary: "Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament, pray for us who have recourse to thee!" Later, Pius IX enriched the invocation with indulgences. And St. Pius X did the same, saying "This title, Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament, is perhaps the most meaningful of all." On December 30, 1905, he granted a 300-days indulgence to the faithful who pray: “Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament, pray for us.” In 1921 the Sacred Congregation of Rite authorized the Blessed Sacrament Congregations to celebrate each year, on the 13th of May, a "solemn commemoration of the Blessed Virgin," with the intention of honoring Mary under the title of "Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament." Pope Bl. John XXIII codified the title of Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament when he declared St. Peter Julian Eymard a saint on December 9, 1962, at the end of the last session of the Second Vatican Council.   And of course, the Feast of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament is still celebrated with great joy today!

Consecration to Jesus Through Mary
O Mary, sweet Mother of Jesus and our own tender mother, we love to call you Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament, because you were the first tabernacle of the Most High and the first adorer of Our Lord and Savior. It was your “yes” to the Incarnation of the Son of God that began the great mystery of union with us which Jesus accomplished during His mortal life, and which He continues in the Holy Eucharist. We desire to spend our lives in adoration at the foot of this Incarnate Love.

O Mary, our heavenly Queen and Divine Mother, we can only accept the honor of becoming the happy servants of our Eucharistic Jesus if you consent to form us, to raise us, and to clothe us under the mantle of your maternal care. Help us, then, to be more devoted to Jesus in the Sacrament of His love; help us to draw others to His Sacred Heart; help us to live the mystery of the Eucharist fully, and to make known the love of God by our service to others.

Therefore, we now consecrate ourselves entirely to you, to guard and direct. And since you happily agree to become our teacher, pray for us, that we may love Our Lord in the Holy Eucharist with a love like that which inflamed your own immaculate Heart, so that we may seek in all things His pleasure and His glory, and may daily grow more like Him.

Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament, pray that we who now adore and love Jesus here below under the veil of the sacred species, may one day have the joy to behold Him in His unveiled beauty in the realms above, and to sing His praises with the angels and the saints, and above all with you, dear Mother. Amen.

Weekly Rosary Prayer
The Holy Spirit pulls you into a deeper relationship with the Holy Family through this meditative devotion. Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Rosary Group meets weekly on Tuesdays at St. Julian Eymard to pray the Sorrowful Mysteries. When weather permits, we will pray in the Marian Garden on the East side of the building, around the statue of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament. All are invited!

If you are unable to join us in person, please join the live-stream. (Please note, when we pray outside, live-stream may not be available.)

First Saturday Rosary
“Look at my Heart, surrounded with thorns with which ungrateful men pierce me at every moment by their blasphemies and ingratitude. You at least, try to console me and announce that I promise to assist at the hour of death, with all the graces necessary for salvation, all those who, on the first Saturday of five consecutive months, shall:

  • Go to confession
  • Receive Holy Communion
  • Recite five decades of the Rosary
  • And keep me company for fifteen minutes while meditating on the fifteen mysteries of the Rosary, with the intention of making reparation to me.”

–Words of Our Lady of Fatima

Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament prays the Joyful Mysteries on the first Saturday of each month at Queen of the Rosary, immediately following morning Mass at approximately 8:45am. When possible, a priest will be available to hear Confessions, but all are invited to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation at our usual times:

  • During weekly Holy Hour on Wednesdays at 7pm at Queen of the Rosary
  • Each Saturday at Noon at St. Julian Eymard

Novena to Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament

O Sacrament Most Holy, O Sacrament Divine,
all praise and all thanksgiving be every moment thine.

Blessed be the holy and Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God!

O Virgin Immaculate,
Mother of Jesus and our tender Mother,
we invoke you under the title of Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament,
because you are the Mother of the Savior
who lives in the Eucharist,
and because it was from you that He took the Flesh and Blood
with which He feeds us!
We invoke you under that title because, again,
you are the sovereign dispensatrix of all graces and,
consequently, of those contained in the august Eucharist,
also, because you did first fulfill the duties of the Eucharistic life,
teaching us by your example
how to assist properly at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass,
how to communicate worthily,
and how to visit frequently and piously the Most Blessed Sacrament.

(Leader)  V. Pray for us, O Virgin Immaculate, Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament.

R. That the Eucharistic Kingdom of Jesus Christ may come among us!

(Leader) Let us pray:
Lord Jesus Christ, our King and our God,
who having become Man to make us sharers in The Divinity,
are truly our Bread in the adorable Eucharist,
grant, we beseech You,
that in venerating so great a Mystery,
we may be mindful of the most sweet Virgin Mary,
of whom You did will to be conceived
by the operation of the Holy Spirit!
Grant, also that we may imitate the worship
that she rendered while on earth to this most august Sacrament,
so we may behold Your Eucharistic Kingdom
spread and flourish throughout the whole world!
O You who lives and reigns forever and ever!
Amen.

O Virgin Immaculate,
after having been present at the death of your Divine Son on Calvary,
where you did unite your immense sorrow to the Redeemer's sacrifice,
you did frequently assist at the real,
though mysterious, renewal of that adorable sacrifice
in the celebration of the Holy Mass.
Teach us by your example to esteem as it deserves
the Divine action performed at the altar,
and obtain for us the grace to be able often,
and even daily,
to assist piously at the Holy Sacrifice.

MARY AND HOLY COMMUNION

O Sacrament Most Holy, O Sacrament Divine,
all praise and all thanksgiving be every moment thine.

Blessed be the holy and Immaculate Conception
of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God!

O Virgin Immaculate,
your Communions were the most fervent,
the most holy that were ever made!
When you did possess your Divine Son in your breast,
you did love Him with a love exceeding
that of any other creature soever for his God.
Teach us to make Holy Communion the center of our life,
and may that life be spent in preparing us
for so great an action
and in thanking God for so inappreciable a benefit!

you art our perfect Model in the service of the Divine Eucharist.

while the Apostles went to preach the Gospel,
you did remain close to the tabernacle,
supplicating for them the goodness of the Savior,
and your prayer obtained for them
the grace to convert the world!
Teach us to pray, above all,
to pray near the tabernacle,
where Jesus wills to abide continually
in order to hear our petitions.
Teach us to pray for the extension of the Eucharistic kingdom,
for the salvation of the whole world,
for the exaltation of the Holy Church,

O Mary, Virgin and most powerful Mother of Mercy,
Queen of Heaven and Refuge of sinners,
we consecrate ourselves today,

We consecrate to thee our very being and our whole life,
all that we have, all that we love, all that we are.
To thee we give our bodies,
our hearts and souls,
to thee we give our homes,
our families, and our country.
Mindful of this consecration,
we now promise to imitate thee by the practice of Christian virtues.
We resolve to receive Holy Communion
on the first Saturday of every month when possible,
and to offer daily,
five decades of the Rosary
with all our sacrifices in the spirit of penance and reparation.
Amen.
