The Culture of Life Ministry reminds us that—from conception to natural death—“human life is a precious gift from God.”
“Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you.” – St. Jeremiah 1:5
Dear brothers and sisters, let us look to God as the God of Life, let us look to his law, to the Gospel message, as the way to freedom and life.… Let us say “Yes” to life and not death. Let us say “Yes” to freedom and not enslavement to the many idols of our time. In a word, let us say “Yes” to the God who is love, life and freedom, and who never disappoints. … Let us ask Mary, Mother of Life, to help us receive and bear constant witness to the “Gospel of Life.”
Be witnesses and diffusers of the “culture of life.” Your being Catholic entails a greater responsibility: first of all to yourselves, through a commitment consistent with your Christian vocation; and then to contemporary culture, by contributing to recognizing the transcendent dimension of human life, the imprint of God’s creative work, from the first moment of its conception. This is a task of the new evangelization that often requires going against the tide and paying for it personally. The Lord is also counting on you to spread the “Gospel of Life.”

We hope to see you for one or more of these parish and community events aimed at helping us grow a culture of life:
Call to Action. It's back... For the past three years, we have fought legislation repealing the state's Parental Notice of Abortion law. This past spring, we prevented a vote, but the pressure is ramping up again.
Take Action Now…e-mail or call your state representative or senator and urge them to oppose repealing the parental notification act.
Through 10/31/21 – 40 Days for Life. The 40 Days for Life 2021 campaign began September 22 and runs through October 31. 40 Days for Life is an internationally coordinated 40-day campaign aimed to end abortion through prayer and fasting, community outreach, and ongoing peaceful vigil in front of abortion clinics. Download the flyer for ways you can support the 40 days campaign.
Through 10•31•21 – Baby Bottle Campaign. Again this year, Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament will support both TLC Pregnancy Services and The Women’s Center with the Baby Bottle Campaign from September 26th until October 31st. Please visit the program websites to support these Women’s Services directly with an online donation, or look for the bottles in both worship site vestibules and return filled to either church or parish office by October 31st. Download the flyer to learn more about how baby bottles can change lives.
Through 10•31•21 – Spiritual Adoption. By participating in Spiritual Adoption, you offer your spiritual support and ask for God’s protection, through the intercession of Jesus, Mary and Joseph, of all unborn children who are in danger of being killed through abortion.
When you enroll in Spiritual Adoption, you pledge to pray this simple prayer written by the Venerable Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen every day for nine months: “Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love you very much. I beg you to spare the life of the unborn child whom I have spiritually adopted who is in danger of abortion.”
You may also choose to name your spiritually adopted child and insert their name into your prayer, making it even more personal and meaningful. If you name your spiritually-adopted child, please pick up a name card near the displays in church or the parish office and drop it in the baby basket at either church.
On Father’s Day, we will conclude our Spiritual Adoption for the year with a Baby Shower Fundraiser to benefit Heather’s House, a local residential crisis pregnancy center run by Aid for Women. Download the flyer to check the progress of your spiritually-adopted baby throughout the campaign.
10•12•21 – Holy Hour for Life. As Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament celebrates Respect Life Month in October, all are invited to join us for a Holy Hour for Life in support of aging and end of life on Tuesday, October 12th at 7pm at SJE.
10•12•21 - 10•14•21 – 40-Hours Devotion. Immediately following the Holy Hour for Life and Exposition at 7pm on October 12th at SJE, all are invited to join in a special forty hour period of continuous prayer in support of life. During the 40-Hours Devotion the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed and the church will be available for personal prayer. The devotion will conclude with Closing Benediction on Thursday, October 14th at 11am.
10•14•21 - Pray for Dobbs. Abortion takes the lives of over 600,000 babies per year in the United States. The upcoming Supreme Court case Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization is our greatest opportunity in a generation to change that.
Join with Christians across the country – Catholic and Protestant – uniting in prayer and fasting for a just decision in the Dobbs case.
At this webinar, you will hear from legal experts and national faith leaders like the the USCCB pro-life committee's chair, Archbishop Naumann, on:
• Why Dobbs is important – from both a legal and faith perspective;
• Why Christians across the country are uniting in prayer and fasting; and
• How you can get involved and get others involved.
All registrants will receive the recording and periodic updates on the initiative.
